Every year hundreds of children with cancer travel with their families to Kansas City, Missouri to celebrate Christmas with a big party sponsored by the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. This party allows the kids to just be kids- not kids with cancer. It also allows the parents and other siblings affected by the diagnosis to have a relaxing evening. The Christmas Party is over the top! Santa is present, numerous safe games and activities are available, a room covered in bubble wrap for the children to play in, an extravagant dinner is served- the list goes on and on! The University of Kansas APhA-ASP felt compelled to help this cause after receiving news that the event might not happen this year because of budget constraints. In collaboration with the School of Pharmacy, APhA-ASP is hosting what we hope to be our first annual Barn Party Benefit to raise funds for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Christmas Party. Students, faculty, family, and friends are invited out for a night of dancing, food, and fun with the common purpose to raise money so that children and their family may have a normal Christmas. We are collecting funds through ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations. It is our goal to bring our community together for a night so that we may be the change in another community’s holiday season.
