Four students from our chapter of American Pharmacist Association- Academy of Student Pharmacist traveled to APhA’s Annual Meeting and Exposition this year. The students were excited to be at their first Annual Meeting. After having gone to APhA-ASP Midyear Regional Meeting, the students knew they were going to have a blast and were not disappointed. They had a lot of fun networking and learning more about the newly introduced bill for provider status. Among the most exciting event was receiving our official chapter charter! Students and advisors could not wait to share the news with the other members who were equally excited about the great news. Other chapters graciously provided information about their chapter’s unique experiences and obstacles they had to overcome as a new chapter. It was impossible not to get inspired with the amount of success packed under one roof. Around the turn of each corner awaited an opportunity to meet new people, learn from their experiences, and grow as a healthcare professional. The neon social was a blast and students had so much fun meeting other students from chapters across the country! Although APhA2014 was filled with fun, the students returned knowing that we still have a lot of work to do as a chapter. We look forward to expanding our chapter with our second class of incoming P1s. After having a year to form our chapter, we cannot wait to bring more students to the Annual Meeting and Exposition next year!
The theme of APhA2014 was the “Power of the Promise of Pharmacy”. Having shared this message with our chapter, we have made promises to better our chapter’s community service events. As a chapter, we have made a promise to target the elderly population with Operation Immunization. As a population that is at a higher risk for influenza complications and other preventable diseases, we are making it our chapter promise to immunize and educate as many geriatric patients as possible. Additionally, we promise to target this population with Operation Heart. This was our first semester to hold free health screenings in our community. Upon continuation of this patient-care event, we want to target the elderly population and educate them about heart health. Our chapter continues to grow, and we look forward to implementing our new patient-care events to help serve our community.

The APhA-ASP chapter from The University of North Texas is excited to announce our chapter’s recent formation! This year, The University of North Texas System College of Pharmacy opened its doors to the inaugural class. Shortly after, students embarked on a journey to create our very own APhA-ASP chapter! After attending MRM, students were very excited about building our chapter and quickly began writing our Constitution and Bylaws. We officially got recognized on campus on November 11th, 2013. This was just the beginning. We have made several strides towards getting our chapter up and running. All of our hard work has paid off thus far and we had our first chapter meeting on January 29th, 2014! Every day, we continue to learn more about APhA-ASP and incorporate this information into strengthening our chapter. We look forward to meeting more APhA-ASP members at Annual!
