One notable accomplishment our chapter is proud to announce this semester is the establishment of UAMS as a host site for the IPSF student exchange program. Through the diligent work of our Vice-President of IPSF, arrangements have been made with our College of Pharmacy to host an exchange student from Malaysia. The college has agreed to provide housing and a meal plan in July for the month long exchange period. There has been significant embracement of this initiative from faculty, many volunteering to have the student shadow in their practice for a period of time during the course of the exchange. We are proud of this accomplishment because not only does it allow this student the opportunity to visit our country and learn about how we practice pharmacy, it also allows a student from our country to travel abroad and gain an understanding of how another country utilizes pharmacists.
Membership is also excited about our annual Chili Cook-Off competition, the biggest social event of the semester! Students are invited to enter their “family recipe” into a competition to be judged by faculty members and the Dean, then to be shared among the attending students. The competition is coupled with a silent auction of items donated by students, faculty, and members of the community. Proceeds from the auction go to sponsor a child’s participation in Camp Hope, a week long camp dedicated to allowing HIV positive 7 to 15 year olds to participate in traditional camp activities without the burdens of their disease. Several rounds of games are played during the evening, with prizes consisting of gift cards donated from local businesses. Everyone enjoys the opportunity to taste test their friends’ chili recipes, not worry about class for an evening, and contribute to a good cause. Chili Cook-Off is the highlight of our spring social calendar!

This year’s Mid-Year Regional Meeting served as a momentous springboard for our chapter! First of all, we were able to bring 73 student pharmacists to Oklahoma City to learn from presentations and experience the energy found in APhA-ASP Mid-Year and APhA Annual meetings. As a result, there has been a renewed eagerness for further involvement in the chapter from all members who were able to attend; we could not be more excited about this!
It was also quite inspiring to see how engaged members were in sharing their thoughts during the policy proposal break-out session. Participating in the policy process instilled in our members the understanding that their ideas matter, and that we have a means through which to make our voice heard.
