The fall semester has been very exciting at the Xavier University’s Chapter of APhA-ASP. Our big event this semester was Operation Wellness held at our local shopping center. There we performed 300 blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol screenings. Also, patients could receive an accurate weight, height, and BMI. Faculty and students counseled patients on their medications and nutrition. In addition to screening services, 80 patients received free flu shots with the help of a local Walgreens. For the first time, we had a Drug Take Back Day in conjunction with our local DEA in order for health fair participants to conveniently dispose of unwanted and expired medication.
In addition to patient care projects, our chapter officers enjoyed everything MRM- Region 6 had to offer. The sessions were educational while being fun and enjoyable. As a group, we thought the weekend was an amazing opportunity to brain storm chapter improvements during every session. Being from New Orleans, the fall temperatures were a huge plus!
In the Spring our chapter plans on continuing to improve our patient care projects and getting our chapter ready for APhA Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida!
